  • Two kinds of people:
  • Those that things happen to.
  • Those that make things happen.
  • Here is how to make ideas happen

-
-
Keys to brainstorming
  • Arrange to get a record of the ideas
  • Write out the task as a question or two
  • Insist that criticism of ideas is put off till later
  • Keep the conversation on task
Suggestions
  • People type their ideas in the local chat channel
  • Local Chat/Voice 2012
  • Use chat history to preserve the record
  • Put the task question on a notecard
  • Recall people to the task by rereading the question
  • When you hear criticism, remind people that evaluation is to come later
  • Quick Quotes about how to get ideas
  • Look through the above page for relevant quotes
  • Mention the incantations below in case of persistent criticism
Restarters
  • If ideas seem to be running low, start organizing the ones you have
  • Look for ways to put ideas into classes
  • For any class of idea, look for more ideas in that class.
  • Pick a familiar fictional character.  What would that person suggest?
  • How would this question be answered in some other time or place?
  • What would be a funny solution?
Incantations to cure creativity
  • It won’t work.
  • It’s been tried before.
  • We can’t afford it.
  • Nobody does it that way.
  • It takes too long.
  • It’s too hard.
  • That’s a stupid idea.
  • Let’s not do anything. It's safer.
