2013 2ndHELP: GRAPHICS: Mesh distortions, and shadows.

Mesh distortions, round circles and shadows
-
Ever see things look like this door?

  • Especially from a distance
  • Maybe close up they look normal.
  • Here is a solution.
-
Want them like this?
-
The instructions here apply to the standard Second Life viewer 3.6 or higher.  Different instructions may be needed for other viewers.
-
Preferences, Graphics tab
Advanced
-
Try setting the Mesh detail (right column) higher for things that matter to you.
Try checking the Advanced Lighting Model (left column).
If your viewer slows too much, uncheck the Advanced Lighting Model.
These settings should give you shadows and other graphics improvements.
-
If some mesh settings don't render properly for you until you get close, try this:
-
Get the Advanced button on your top menu
  • Me (top menu)-Preferences-Advanced- Show Advanced menu (check)
  • Click OK to save this setting
When you have the Advanced button on the top menu
  • Click the Advanced button
  • Click show debug settings on the drop-down
  • Into the entry line that appears, copy/paste:
  • RenderVolumeLODFactor
  • In the Value box that appears, put 4

  1. I just followed your instructions. I'm thrilled. Basic Shaders do weird things to my old video card, but when I jacked the RenderVolumeLODFactor up to 6 (If 4 is good six is better!) my sculptie problem vanished. My avie's amazing hair piece looks just as fantastic from twenty meters away as it does up close!

  2. I have heard from several people who found this fix useful
