2015 HYPERGRID: Your suitcase. Just what you need to travel the hypergrid.

Your suitcase.
Just what you need to travel the hypergrid

  • Fortunately, you probably  have one in your inventory if your grid is HG connected.
  • If your grid is not HG connected, you don't need one.  You aren't going anywhere.
  • Just search your inventory for Suitcase. The title will probably be My Suitcase.
  • A few grids may not provide a suitcase.  Ask your grid manager about that.
  • I think they got that My bit from Microsoft.  Not needed.
  • You guessed it was yours when you found it in your inventory.
  • Opensim, Hypergrid: Summary
-
  • The virtual suitcase works much like a real suitcase.
  • Virtually the same function.
  • You put stuff in your suitcase to take with you on the hypergrid.
  • Stuff you pick up on your travels goes into your suitcase.
  • You unpack your suitcase when you get back home.
  • You put the stuff you brought back where it belongs in your main inventory.
  • You don't leave anything in your suitcase except what you always need.
  • If you have too much in your virtual suitcase, it will slow your trips.
  • The case of the vanishing suitcase

Watch your assets

  • The information in this section is developed on Kitely grid.
  • Things may be a little different in other grids.

What comes with you

  • Assets are those things you find in your inventory.
  • Each grid has its own asset server.
  • When you rez an object, your viewer has to get all the assets needed.
  • Your assets are stored in your home grid
  • What will you have on another grid?  Only what you take with you.
  • That is what you wear and what is in your suitcase.

What you bring back

  • What can you bring back?  Only what is in your suitcase.
  • Notecards with embedded assets may not bring those assets to another grid.
  • Open notecards when you get them.
  • Copy assets you want to take with you to your inventory before you leave.
  • Your inventory away from home grid is your suitcase
  • Landmarks may not work in another grid.
  • Put the names of the grid and sim into the name of the LM.
  • Maybe keep the coordinates, too.

Unpack

  • Remember to unpack your suitcase.
  • Put things away where you will look for them later.
  • (You can also search for the name. If you remember it.)
  • When you copy to your main inventory, delete from your suitcase.
  • You will travel faster if you travel light.
  • But keep a full set of clothes or a whole avatar in your suitcase.
  • In case you lose something on a trip

It must be exportable

  • On a trip you can only wear stuff that is exportable.
  • Kitely will not let you leave if you are wearing something not exportable.
  • Caution: on some grids, you may be able to leave and arrive naked.
  • On Kitely, you can only put stuff in your suitcase if it is exportable
  • On Kitely, if you can put it in your suitcase, you can travel with it.

What is exportable?

  • On Kitely, items from the Kitely market are exportable:
  • if they were marked that way when you bought them.
  • Items not from the Kitely market are exportable
  • if  they have perms of Copy/Transfer

How to use a hypergrid address

  • From any Hypergrid-enabled grid, with Firestorm,
  • paste the address into the address bar of Firestorm and press enter.
  • The ideal Hypergrid address form--almost there in Firestorm
  • The Firestorm address bar is near the top of the viewer.
  • Or paste it into the world map search bar of any viewer, search,
  • and click Teleport if the destination is found.
  • If it doesn't work, don't give up. Try again in couple of minutes.
  • Sometimes the first try fails (probably times out).
  • And try again a few hours later.
  • Some hypergrid destinations are offline part of the day.
  • To get back home, use the home button (top right, house)
  • Or use Ctrl+Shift+H.    Or just log off.
