2015 WRITE: BLOG: The whys and hows of blogging.

The whys and hows of blogging
Updated 11/12/2015
You blog to tell people about something you want to publicize.  Here is how to get started, how to keep going, how to get attention.

Why?

  • Publicize--Tell people about something important to you
  • That includes instruction and information
  • That's it.  At least for starters.
  • Maybe you develop a rep and get hired as a consultant
  • Maybe you sell ads
  • But don't count on it
  • If you start for those reasons, you will soon quit
  • Anything that is worth doing is worth knowing why you are doing it.
  • Blog to tell, publicize, or promote. Summary

How to get started, to keep going, to get attention

  • Find a host
  • Chose your content
  • Know your resources
  • Promote your blog
  • Build your staying power

    Content

    • What do you want to tell people?
    • What do people want to read about?
    • What do people want to see?
    • Put a picture or graphic above the break of every post.
    • Google Calendars keep updated and working for you

    What is "above the break"

    • The start page of a blog normally carries the beginning part of recent posts.
    • The arriving reader can look over the set, pick any of interest and read the rest.
    • You use the part above the break to sell the story.
    • I usually include a summary, a graphic, and a mention or list of contents.
