2017 BIZ: HG: Kitely's web page model now being imitated (badly) by the big grid. Grid features

Kitely's web page model being imitated
(badly) by the big grid.  Grid features
Web pages for places in virtual worlds offer a valuable way for virtual worlders to reach out to the general public.  Here is a report on the growth of this feature. Product differentiation.

  • Kitely posts a web page for each world.
  • Your world gets a web presence.
  • You can send people to it with your posts on social media.
  • OpenSimmers can find the HG address there.
  • Kitely residents can open a viewer and go directly to that world.
  • It is a step towards ending the isolation of virtual worlds from the web.
  • It links virtual worlds to the big world of the browser.
  • Guess who just thought of that model.

In his New World Notes article, Wagner James Au describes Place Pages, a new initiative by Linden Lab to present places in Second Life to the people on the web.
He also points out some defects in their current arrangement and offers some suggestions for improvement.
-
One if his suggestions, "A button for sharing Pages on Plurk, a top social network among core SLers." has long had its better counterpart on the Kitely search pages.  The Kitely pages offer share buttons on Google+, Twitter, and LinkedIn.  I think these are some of the top social networks for the rest of us (Facebook is another).  I did not know Plurk was still operating.
-
Have you shared your Kitely page lately?  Is there a place you could share it to?
-
Other grids may have a similar feature.  If so, please post about it in a comment on this article.
-
Kitely offers only one web page for the whole world.  You can make Firestorm hops for individual parcels and put the hops as text on the webpage. So you can point people to your parcels.
-
Perhaps soon virtual worlds will have miniworlds that people can enter directly from the web without loading a viewer.  Imagine putting those on the web page to welcome new people.
