2017 OSHG: IMA Commerce working group forming

IMA Commerce working group forming
IMA Commerce WG, call for participation, citing of stakeholders, and statement of initial objectives regarding digital economy, intellectual property, and intergrid commerce.  Added comments about IMA's possible function as an OpenSim Chamber of Commerce.

  • Mike Lorry has formed a Kitely group called IMA Commerce Working Group.
  • That prepares for an IMA working group of the same name.

IMA Commerce Working Group Call for Participation

by Mike Lorry

Stakeholders in metaverse e-commerce are invited to participate in the Commerce Working Group to help develop standards and specifications for the IMA's roadmap for OS development. The CWG has three main areas of concern:

a) digital economy: money systems, virtual finance, and regulatory compliance with real world legal systems.

b) intellectual property: developing specifications for improved permissions systems, better content security and theft/fraud detection, exploring smart contract technologies, and simplifying IP protection and dispute resolution, and reforming OAR technologies to preserve original creator credits.

c) intergrid commerce: improving the ability of merchants to sell across the hypergrid, to send content and receive payments, and communicate with customers via groups, chat, and other technologies.

Stakeholders may include any of the following:

  • Grid owners/managers for grids that operate their own grid money system and/or content marketplace (online or inworld),
  • 3rd party money systems (Gloebit/Podex, etc),
  • content creators
  • coders with an interest in improving these features of OpenSim.

My comment

The previous articles have described a possible need for an an organization doing for OpenSim what is usually done (in US) for cities by a local Chamber of Commerce.  IMA seems to be emerging as the organization that can do that.  The IMA Commerce WG is planning to take on some of the tasks aimed at meeting that need.

Other needs remain to be taken by WGs dealing with

  • Promotion of OpemSim to the public.
  • Outreach
  • Ease of entry (viewer changes)
  • Web-worlds as marketing sites on the web.
  • Marketing and Merchandising.
  • Beginners help.
